File Protection Recovery Utility
The DigitalPersona File Protection Recovery Utility decrypts files encrypted by the DigitalPersona Personal File Protection add-on. Some situations where one would use this tool include:
- An encrypted file was moved to another computer.
- DigitalPersona File Protection was uninstalled – prior to decrypting all encrypted files.
- The Windows user account used when the files were encrypted was deleted.
- The computer running DigitalPersona Personal was lost or re-formatted, but the encrypted files are backed-up and available for use.
Compatibility:
This tool is designed for use with files encrypted with the DigitalPersona Personal 4.x File Protection 4.x software.
Usage Instructions:
- Open the "RecoveryUtility.zip" file
- Run "DpRecDsk.exe"
- Browse to the encrypted file (files which have the extension .dpe)
- Enter the passphrase (the passphrase is the one created when encrypting a file with DigitalPersona File Protection for the first time.)
The file will be decrypted and renamed back to its original name. For example: "sample.doc.dpe" will become "sample.doc".
Notes:
The Windows operating system must use one of the 17 languages included:
- Danish (da)
- German (de)
- English (en-US)
- Spanish (es)
- French (fr)
- Italian (it)
- Japanese (ja)
- Korean (ko)
- Dutch (nl-NL)
- Norwegian (no)
- Portuguese (pt-BR / pt-PT)
- Russian (ru)
- Swedish (sv)
- Turkish (tr)
- Chinese (zh-CN / zh-TW)
Without the passphrase, decryption is impossible. There is no backdoor decryption method, nor can DigitalPersona decrypt files for users who have lost their passphrases. This is not a limitation of the DigitalPersona encryption software but rather a feature of all encryption software.
