Every time there is a password, users will find a way to forget it. Studies show that about half of business managers whose laptop is protected with full disk encryption forgot their password to decrypt the hard drive at least once. For more than 40% of them, the IT Help Desk was not able to provide recovery access to the encrypted data, with significant monetary and opportunity costs.
As a consequence, Help Desks could be overwhelmed with password support requests. Research firms estimated that Help Desk calls, including password resets, can cost companies between $18 and $70 per call. They also found that between 30% and 60% of the total call volume for multipurpose Help Desks are password related.
